Pune: Poor Quality Drainage Work On Handewadi Road Causes Accident, Residents Demand Action Against Contractor
Pune, May 24 – Poor-quality drainage work recently carried out on the stretch from Handewadi Chowk to Holkarwadi and near the Royal Hotel has resulted in an accident, raising serious concerns about public safety. Shiv Sena’s Pune district head, Ulhas Tupe, has strongly criticized the administration and demanded immediate action.
Tupe alleged that the drainage line was constructed using substandard materials, leading to a waste of public funds. He insisted that the chambers and pipes installed be cross-verified with the work order and specifications of the assigned contractor. If the components do not meet the required standards, the company responsible should face strict action, he asserted.
He also pointed out that the chamber work near the Handewadi crematorium has been left incomplete, posing a major threat, especially during the monsoon season when water accumulation could lead to serious accidents. Tupe urged the administration to install temporary barricades around the site immediately and implement safety measures without delay.
Highlighting the risk to residents, Tupe warned that if corrective steps are not taken swiftly, Shiv Sena would be forced to launch a strong public agitation. Tupe stressed that the safety of citizens should be the topmost priority and any negligence on the part of officials or contractors will not be tolerated.
He appealed to the authorities to treat the matter with urgency to prevent any future tragedies.
