Pune, June 6, 2026: Growing concerns over the supply of yellowish and foul-smelling water have triggered public outrage in Dhanori, Lohegaon, Nagpur Chawl and Kharadi, with local representatives warning of a major agitation if the issue is not resolved within the next two days.

Speaking to the media on Friday, former corporator Dr. Siddharth Dhende and local leader Nandini Dhende said residents of Wards 1 to 4 have been facing the problem for nearly a month. They alleged that different civic departments are shifting responsibility instead of addressing the root cause of the issue.

According to civic officials, the affected areas receive water from the Bhama Askhed water supply system. Authorities have attributed the discoloration to low water levels in the reservoir and the presence of algae. However, residents claim that while water appears normal at treatment facilities, it turns yellowish during distribution through the supply network.

Municipal laboratory tests have reportedly declared the water fit for consumption. However, residents have questioned how visibly discoloured water can be considered safe for drinking, expressing concern over both its appearance and quality.

Local representatives said the administration has been given a two-day deadline to provide a permanent solution. Failure to do so could lead to large-scale protests in the affected areas.

Residents have also complained about a strong foul odour in the water. They alleged that the actual cause of the contamination has not been clearly explained and accused the administration of withholding crucial information. Questions have also been raised about the transparency of the laboratory reports shared with the public.

To verify the quality of the water independently, local representatives said samples will be sent to a private laboratory for testing. They added that the results would help determine the extent of the problem and guide further action.

The issue has sparked serious concerns over public health, with residents demanding immediate intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation to ensure the supply of clean and safe drinking water.
