Pune, June 6, 2026: The long-awaited first phase of the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor is expected to become operational by mid-July, following a review of the project by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Chief Minister has directed authorities to expedite the remaining work and avoid any further delays in commissioning the metro line.

The directive was issued during a high-level infrastructure review meeting in Mumbai, where Fadnavis assessed the status of key development projects across the state. During the meeting, he emphasized the need for timely completion of public infrastructure projects and expressed concern over delays in the metro corridor.

Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) informed the meeting that the initial phase of the metro project, comprising 12 stations, is expected to be ready for public use by around July 15. The remaining section of the corridor, extending up to Shivajinagar and covering all 23 stations, is expected to be completed within the following two months.

Once the first phase is launched, commuters travelling between Pune’s western IT hub and other parts of the city will gain access to a significant portion of the route, offering a new public transport option aimed at reducing travel time and easing road congestion.

The 23.2-kilometre elevated metro corridor is being developed under a public-private partnership model and is considered one of the country’s pioneering metro projects of its kind. The corridor will feature 23 stations and is being executed by Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL) in partnership with Siemens Project Ventures. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹8,313 crore.

During the review, the Chief Minister reiterated that delays in infrastructure projects would not be accepted and instructed departments to closely monitor execution schedules. He also directed authorities to address bottlenecks promptly and ensure that major projects are completed within prescribed timelines.

Fadnavis further stated that contractors who consistently fail to meet deadlines should not be considered for future government projects, underscoring the state’s focus on timely delivery of infrastructure works. The government has set a target of completing major projects within three to three-and-a-half years to accelerate urban development and improve public services.
