Pune Municipal Corporation Approves ₹66 Crore Project For Waste Leather, Fabric And Mattress Processing At Ramtekdi

Pune: PMC Invites Residents To Participate In Citizens Participatory Budget 2026-27
Pune: A new waste processing facility with a capacity of 75 tonnes will be set up in Ramtekdi to handle waste materials such as fabric scraps, leather, and discarded mattresses. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) standing committee has approved a budget of ₹66.85 crore for this project.
The proposal was passed during a meeting chaired by PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, which was also his last official meeting before retirement this Saturday. The contract for the project has been awarded to Green Prithvi Solutions LLP, Pune. A total of ₹13.03 crore will be allocated for the establishment of the facility.
The contractor will be paid ₹690 per tonne for transportation of materials including hosiery waste, old furniture, leather goods, and mattresses. Interestingly, questions have been raised regarding the project’s approval even though the land for it has not yet been finalized.
Concerns Over Timing and Transparency
Despite the appointment of Naval Kishore Ram as the new Municipal Commissioner, outgoing Commissioner Dr. Bhosale approved this major tender, raising eyebrows. Sharad Pawar-led NCP city president Prashant Jagtap has demanded an inquiry into the standing committee’s decision-making process.
The proposal was reportedly submitted to the standing committee only on Wednesday and approved in Thursday’s meeting—originally scheduled as a follow-up to a postponed session. Allegations have surfaced that the proposal was pushed through hastily. City Secretary Yogita Bhosale responded by stating that the delay was due to technical issues in the urban development department’s internet system, and the proposal had been prepared in time for Wednesday’s session.
