Two Automated Driving Test Centers To Come Up In Pune
Pune, June 3, 2025 – Vehicle owners in Pune will no longer need to travel to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Driver Training and Research Institute for driving license tests. The Transport Department has approved the establishment of modern Automated Driving Testing Centers (ADTCs) at the Hadapsar and Alandi Road RTO premises.
This initiative is expected to save time for drivers as they will have local access to automated testing facilities. Based on Pune’s rapid expansion, there had been a growing demand to set up test centers within the city. The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) had submitted a proposal to the Transport Commissioner, which has now been approved. Work orders have been issued, and construction will begin shortly.
The new centers will feature advanced driving test tracks equipped with cameras and sensors to monitor driver performance in real time. The tracks will include the following key tests:
Figure 8 Track: Drivers must navigate the track without crossing boundary lines or stalling.
H-Pattern Track: Vehicles must not stall during the test.
Incline and Decline Tests: Drivers will be tested on their ability to drive uphill and downhill.
Lane Discipline: The system will detect whether vehicles remain within lane markings.
Automatic Monitoring: Cameras and sensors will verify if the vehicle is turning properly, stalling, or veering off course.
These automated checks will ensure transparency and eliminate manual intervention, thereby improving the efficiency and fairness of the testing process.
According to a report in Pudhari, “Two automated driving testing centers are coming up in Pune. The transport department has granted approval, and work will begin soon.” – Archana Gaikwad, Regional Transport Officer, Pune
