LinkedIn, the website that helps people find jobs, has let go of 281 employees in California. This was shared in a recent report filed with the state’s Employment Development Department.

The job cuts were announced to workers on May 13. Most of the people who lost their jobs were software engineers, but some other roles like product managers and account directors were also affected.

LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, which recently said it will cut 6,000 jobs around the world. Now, LinkedIn is also part of these big changes.

No Message From LinkedIn Leaders

In past layoffs, LinkedIn’s CEO Ryan Roslansky sent out a message to explain the situation. This time, there was no public message from him or the company. Because of this, many people are wondering if more layoffs might be coming soon.

AI Replacing Some Jobs

One reason for these job cuts is the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI tools can now do some of the work that people used to do, like writing code and fixing software. This is making companies think about how many workers they really need.

LinkedIn’s co-founder, Reid Hoffman, warned people not to trust AI too much. He said AI can’t really be your friend and pretending it can might hurt people.

Tech Industry Changing Fast

LinkedIn isn’t the only tech company cutting jobs. Other big companies like Google, Meta, and Autodesk have also laid off workers this year. Some say it’s because of changes in business plans, while others say it’s because of AI and trying to save money.

LinkedIn has more than 18,000 workers around the world. These job cuts could mean bigger changes are coming for the company and others in the Microsoft group.
