With a starting price of ₹6.84 lakh and 5-star safety rating, the compact sedan tops the charts, outpacing popular models like Swift, Punch, and Creta.

In a surprising development in the Indian automobile market, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has emerged as the best-selling car in the country for May 2025. The compact sedan outperformed some of the most sought-after models such as the Maruti Swift, Tata Punch, and Hyundai Creta. Industry experts and consumers alike are noting the shift, especially considering Dzire’s sedan format in a market dominated by hatchbacks and SUVs.

According to monthly sales data, the Dzire recorded sales of 18,084 units, showing a 13% growth compared to the same month last year. This achievement places it at the top of the list, pushing aside even high-demand utility vehicles.

Why the Dzire is Gaining Ground

Priced starting at ₹6.84 lakh, the new Maruti Dzire stands out for more than just affordability. The 2025 model brings significant upgrades in both aesthetics and features:Exterior Design: The facelifted Dzire features a bold front bumper, horizontal LED DRLs, redesigned fog lamp housing, and a wide chrome-accented grille. It retains its compact sedan silhouette while offering refined lines and modern finishes such as shark fin antenna and boot-lid spoiler.

Interior Features: The cabin comes with a dual-tone beige and black theme, faux wood inserts on the dashboard, and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with cruise control, analog driver display, rear AC vents, and a single-pane sunroof.

Safety First: The Dzire is the first in its segment to offer a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. It includes six airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera, rare features in the compact sedan segment.

Performance: It is powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, shared with the new Swift. The engine delivers 80 bhp of power and 112 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission. It is offered in LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+ variants.

The Dzire’s blend of safety, performance, and feature-rich design combined with competitive pricing, has clearly resonated with Indian buyers. As environmental awareness and urban practicality become key factors in car buying decisions, compact sedans like the Dzire may continue to see a resurgence in popularity.
