Pimpri-Chinchwad, June 7, 2025: In a major development that addresses public sentiment and local concerns, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh has assured that the proposed slaughterhouse reservation in Moshi will be withdrawn from the draft Development Plan (DP). Instead, the area will be reserved for establishing a cattle shelter (Goshala).

The original plan, part of PCMC’s newly released draft Development Plan, had earmarked land in Moshi (Gat No. 325, formerly Gat No. 323) for a slaughterhouse. This triggered strong opposition from local residents, farmers, native landowners, and various Hindu organizations.

BJP MLA Mahesh Landge urged the administration to cancel the reservation and replace it with a Goshala. Representing the sentiments of the people of Moshi, he submitted a formal request to the civic authorities.

Public Opposition and Cultural Concerns

On Thursday, a delegation from Moshi met PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh to voice their objections. Locals emphasized that Moshi is a historically and culturally significant village, home to people from diverse religions and communities who live in harmony. The proposal for a slaughterhouse was seen as a potential threat to social unity, public health, and religious sentiments.

Adding to the concerns is the presence of Shri Nageshwar Maharaj’s Samadhi in the same area, a revered site where lakhs of devotees gather during annual celebrations. The region is also situated between two important religious destinations—Alandi and Dehu, and holds deep importance for the Warkari sect.

Residents warned that if the slaughterhouse proposal is not scrapped, they would be forced to launch a large-scale agitation.

PCMC Commissioner’s Say

Commissioner Shekhar Singh acknowledged the public concerns and confirmed that the request made by MLA Mahesh Landge will be presented before the DP Planning Committee. He assured that the slaughterhouse reservation will be cancelled and replaced with a Goshala reservation.

Bhosari MLA Commented:

Speaking on the matter, MLA Landge said, “The draft DP for Pimpri-Chinchwad had initially shown land between Moshi and Dudulgaon for a slaughterhouse. However, due to strong objections from local residents and Alandi temple officials, I’ve asked the civic body to relocate the site. The planning committee will be presented with this proposal, and the change will be made accordingly.”

He further added, “The draft DP is not yet final. Objections and suggestions from residents, landowners, and farmers are being reviewed. We will ensure that no slaughterhouse comes up in Moshi. A Goshala will be developed in its place, respecting the wishes of all local communities.”
