Pune News: Three Loan Recovery Agents Arrested For Illegally Handing Over JCB To Shashank Hagawane
Pimpri Chinchwad police on Thursday arrested three loan recovery agents in a case related to Shashank Hagawane and his mother Lata, who were earlier booked for cheating and threatening a farmer at gunpoint.
Shashank is the husband of Vaishnavi Hagawane, daughter-in-law of expelled NCP leader Rajendra Hagawane. Vaishnavi died by suicide last month after allegedly facing dowry-related harassment, bringing the family under public scrutiny.
The current case was filed by Prashant Yelwande, a farmer from Nigoje village, who said he bought a JCB machine from Shashank and Lata in March 2022 for ₹24 lakh. The machine had a ₹19 lakh loan, and Yelwande paid ₹5 lakh upfront, agreeing to pay ₹50,000 per month to cover the remaining amount.
According to police, Yelwande had paid ₹6.7 lakh to the Hagawanes, but they did not use the money to repay the loan. Later, in August 2024, three recovery agents — Yogesh Raskar (25), Ganesh Potle (30), and Vaibhav Pingle (27) — illegally took the JCB from Yelwande and returned it to Shashank, without any direction from the bank.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivaji Pawar confirmed that the recovery agents acted without authorization and were arrested.
Yelwande claimed that when he asked for his money back — around ₹11.7 lakh — Shashank threatened him with a gun. The police are investigating the matter further.
Earlier, Shashank and Lata were also arrested in Vaishnavi’s death case. Her father, Anil Kaspate, had alleged in an FIR that Vaishnavi was mentally and physically abused for a dowry demand of ₹2 crore to buy a property. He also claimed she had injury marks on her body and suspected foul play in her death.
