Fake News About SET Exam Triggers Alarm; Pune University Files Cyber Crime Complaint
Pune, June 12, 2025:
Savitribai Phule Pune University has filed a cybercrime complaint after fake news and misleading videos about the upcoming State Eligibility Test (SET) started circulating on social media. The university has warned candidates not to believe such content and to only follow official updates.
The 40th SET exam is scheduled for June 15, 2025, and will be held at several college centres across 18 cities in Maharashtra and Goa. The SET exam is conducted by the university under the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor posts in colleges and universities.
In recent days, false claims and videos about the exam have gone viral, causing confusion among students. The university clarified that no such information has been released by the official SET department.
A formal complaint was lodged with the Pune Cyber Police Station at 9:00 PM on June 11. The university warned that strict action would be taken against individuals spreading fake news or trying to create panic.
SET authorities have asked candidates to stay alert and ignore rumours. All official announcements related to the exam will be made through the university’s website and the official SET portal.
The department assured students that the exam process will be conducted smoothly and urged them to focus on preparation rather than getting misled by unofficial sources.
