Pune | June 13, 2025: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall across Maharashtra over the next 48 hours as the monsoon gains intensity in the region. The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Konkan, predicting torrential rains, while Orange Alerts have been issued for parts of Mumbai, Thane, Kolhapur, and Satara. Yellow Alerts are in place for several districts across Marathwada and Vidarbha, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

According to the IMD, the monsoon, which had stalled earlier, has now resumed its advance, covering regions from southeast Madhya Pradesh to Haryana, as well as the Andhra coast toward Odisha and Chhattisgarh. This shift has created favorable conditions for widespread rainfall across Maharashtra, significantly lowering temperatures.

Heavy Showers Lash Pune on Thursday Night

After a brief dry spell, Pune witnessed a sudden and intense spell of rain late Thursday (June 12) night. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds lashed the city from the central areas to the suburbs, including Deccan, Shivajinagar, Baner, Aundh, Kothrud, Swargate, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Bavdhan, and Bibvewadi.

The downpour brought a temporary drop in temperature, but also caused considerable disruption. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recorded 20 incidents of tree falls, traffic congestion, power outages, and one case of a senior citizen reportedly being swept away near Navale Bridge. Search operations are ongoing.

In Pimpri-Chinchwad too, areas like Thergaon, Pimple Saudagar, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi, and Bhosari were hit by heavy downpours, leading to waterlogging in several areas within minutes.

As of Friday morning, Pune remains under a Yellow Alert, with cloudy skies and intermittent rain expected throughout the day. Citizens are advised to stay alert and avoid low-lying areas during heavy rain spells.
