Pune: Military Intelligence, Police Nab 4 Bangladeshi Nationals Living Illegally at Labour Camp in Kondhwa

Pune, June 14 — In a coordinated operation, the Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Indian Army’s Southern Command and Pune city police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals from a labour camp in Kondhwa Budruk on Friday evening for residing illegally in India.
The arrested individuals — Swapan Nidhubhushan Mandal (39), Mithunkumar Dilip Mandal (31), Randhir Kumar Mandal (37), and Dilip Mandal (38) — were found living without valid documentation and are suspected to have entered the country illegally via the West Bengal border over the last few years.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar and Assistant Inspector Sachin Thorat from Kondhwa police station detained the suspects at the KEC labour camp on Punyadham Ashram Road. The arrests were made following a tip-off from Military Intelligence.
Police said that during interrogation, the men revealed they were originally from Bangladesh. Investigators are now probing how they managed to cross the international border and whether they illegally obtained Indian identification documents, including Aadhaar, PAN, and voter ID cards.
Sources indicated the suspects had earlier worked in Kolkata and other cities before relocating to Pune to work on a construction site. Authorities believe they may still possess Bangladeshi identity papers.
Mobile phones and SIM cards belonging to the accused have been seized. A case has been registered at Kondhwa police station under the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act. Further investigation is ongoing.
