Air India Hong Kong-Delhi Flight Returns Mid-Air After Pilot Detects Technical Snag
New Delhi, June 16, 2025 – An Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to Delhi was forced to return mid-air on Monday morning after the pilot suspected a technical snag, sources told news agency ANI. The incident occurred on Flight AI315, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which had taken off from Hong Kong earlier in the day.
While flying towards Delhi, the pilot detected a possible issue with the aircraft and, following standard safety procedures, made the decision to turn the aircraft around and return to Hong Kong. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were evacuated without any injuries reported.
Although the exact nature of the suspected technical fault has not been disclosed, the airline is expected to carry out a full inspection of the aircraft. Air India has not yet issued an official statement on the incident or the revised travel arrangements for the passengers.
This incident comes just days after a devastating crash involving the same aircraft model. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London tragically crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 people on board and several others on the ground. The aircraft had plunged into the premises of a medical college in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar area, igniting a massive fire.
In the wake of that fatal crash, Monday’s mid-air technical alert raises renewed concerns about the Dreamliner fleet’s safety. However, the swift and precautionary response by the AI315 crew helped avert any tragedy, reinforcing the importance of in-flight vigilance and strict adherence to safety protocols.
