In a bid to ease persistent traffic congestion at Pune Airport, authorities have enforced a new regulation: private four-wheelers stopping for more than 15 minutes at the terminal will now be fined ₹500. The decision, which aims to improve vehicular movement and enhance passenger convenience, has officially come into effect following approval from the Delhi headquarters.

According to airport director Santosh Dhoke, the move addresses growing concerns over vehicles halting for prolonged periods at the terminal, which has led to significant traffic build-up and delays for incoming and outgoing passengers.

“Traffic congestion in front of the Pune airport terminal has become a serious concern. Many drivers leave their vehicles parked for extended durations, disrupting the flow of traffic. The ₹500 fine for halts exceeding 15 minutes is being introduced to curb this behavior and ensure smoother traffic management,” Dhoke stated.

To ensure strict implementation, a dedicated enforcement squad will be deployed at the airport to monitor vehicle movement, identify offenders, and issue penalties in real time. The team will be specially tasked with maintaining order and deterring misuse of the terminal access zone.

The measure has been met with a positive response from frequent travellers. Sneha Patel, a regular flyer from Pune, said,

“It’s a much-needed step. I’ve often missed pickups or faced delays due to congestion at the terminal. Strict enforcement of this policy will definitely streamline the experience for passengers.”

The rule is part of a broader initiative to enhance airport infrastructure, security, and operational efficiency, especially as Pune Airport sees increased passenger footfall post-pandemic. Airport authorities are urging passengers and drivers to plan their drop-offs and pickups accordingly and avoid unnecessary halts.

The 15-minute window is expected to be sufficient for regular passenger movement, and violators will be charged ₹500 as a deterrent to misuse. The move aligns with similar policies at other major Indian airports and is a step towards making Pune Airport more efficient and commuter-friendly.
