Pune: The special initiative ‘TERRE Envirothon – Run for Environment’, organized by TERRE Policy Centre, received an overwhelming response in Pune on Sunday, 15 June 2025. The event kicked off at 4:30 AM from the Pune Rural Police Hockey Ground in Pashan.

More than 700 eco-conscious citizens participated in the event. The run was not just a race but a pledge to raise awareness and take concrete steps for environmental conservation. One of the key highlights of the initiative was TERRE Policy Centre’s commitment to plant one tree for each participant.

The race was conducted in three distance categories – 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km – with participants grouped by age: 12 to 18, 19 to 40, 41 to 55, and 56 and above. Cash prizes were announced for the 10 km category, while other categories received attractive awards. Several reputed corporate groups took part in the event.

The inauguration was graced by Ajay Ratan from Tata BlueScope, Mr. Govind, Vijay Kumar from Google, and Mr. Umesh as special guests. The prize distribution ceremony was honored by the presence of retired senior police officer Madhukar Zende and four inspiring environmentalists – Colonel Bhupendra Subbu, Basant Pradhan, Anup Baniya, and Love Barman – who have run across India and even completed the Srinagar to Khardung La eco-run. The event was anchored by Mrs. Priya Jain-Beedkar.

As TERRE Policy Centre celebrates its 15th anniversary, a month-long series of programs has been planned. The Envirothon, held with the support of Tata BlueScope Steel, marked the beginning of these celebrations.

Dr. Vinita Apte, founder of TERRE Policy Centre, stated, “The Envirothon is not just a competition; it lays the foundation for a larger social and environmental movement.”
