Pune: Notorious Ganja Racket Kingpin Kalyani Deshpande Nabbed In Andhra PradeshÂ
Pimpri Chinchwad, June 17, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch has arrested Kalyani alias Jayashree Deshpande, the alleged mastermind of a large-scale ganja distribution racket, from Andhra Pradesh. Deshpande, a habitual offender with multiple serious criminal cases, had previously served jail time under MCOCA and the PITA Act.
As per directions from Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaube to intensify the crackdown on drug networks, the Anti-Narcotics Cell has been conducting rigorous surveillance and enforcement.
On May 24, 2025, during routine patrolling on Pashan-Sus Road in Bavdhan, Senior Police Inspector Santosh Patil, API Vikram Gaikwad, and their team received a tip-off about ganja being sold from a local store named Kalyani Collection and the adjoining residence. A swift raid led to the arrest of Umesh Suryakant Deshpande (56), resident of Pallavi Apartment, Pashan-Sus Road, Abhishek Vikas Ranavde (32), resident of Balaji Nivas, Pashan-Sus Road and Aishwarya Abhishek Ranavde / Aishwarya Nilesh Deshpande (22).
From the accused, police seized 20.736 kg of ganja worth ₹11,27,700, 3 mobile phones, ₹700 in cash.
An FIR was lodged at Bavdhan Police Station under the NDPS Act Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), and 29. However, the key accused Kalyani Deshpande had fled the city immediately after the case was registered.
Determined to apprehend her, the Anti-Narcotics Cell, led by API Vikram Gaikwad under Sr PI Patil’s supervision, tracked her down through technical analysis and informant intelligence. The team traced her to Rajanagaram Police Station limits in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, where she was captured in a well-planned operation and later handed over to Bavdhan Police Station for further investigation.
Deshpande’s extensive criminal history includes:
- Murder – Haveli PS (IPC 302)
- Kidnapping and wrongful confinement – Chatushrungi PS (IPC 344, 366, 438)
- Maharashtra Police Act violation – Chatushrungi PS
- Housebreaking – Deccan PS (IPC 457)
- Running a brothel (PITA Act) – Deccan PS (PITA 3, 4, 5, 7)
- Cheating and prostitution – Chatushrungi PS (IPC 420, 438, PITA)
- Immoral trafficking – Kothrud PS (PITA 3, 4, 5, 7)
- MCOCA + PITA – Kothrud PS
The arrest was carried out under the leadership and guidance of Vinaykumar Chaube – Commissioner of Police, Pimpri Chinchwad, Shashikant Mahavarkar – Joint Commissioner, Shri Sarang Awad – Additional Commissioner, Sandeep Doifode – DCP, Crime, Swapna Gore – DCP, Zone 1 and Vishal Hire – ACP, Crime-2.
The operational team included Sr PI Santosh Patil, API Vikram Gaikwad, and Constables Javed Bagsiraj, Mayur Wadkar, Shilpa Kamble, and Ganesh Karpe.
