Pune News: CM Fadnavis Clarifies: No Slaughterhouse Will Be Built Near AlandiĀ
The recently released revised draft development plan by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has sparked fresh controversy. A proposed slaughterhouse on a 4-acre plot near the Indrayani River, close to Alandi on the Moshi-Dudulgaon border, has led to outrage among Hindutva groups and the Warkari sect.
In response, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided a strong clarification during his visit to Pune, offering relief to concerned citizens. He firmly stated that there are no plans to build a slaughterhouse in Alandi and that the land reserved for such a facility has already been ordered to be de-reserved.
Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said, āYes, the draft plan does show land reserved for a slaughterhouse near Alandi. However, I have issued orders to remove that reservation. A slaughterhouse will not be allowed there under any circumstance.ā
Addressing the Warkari community, he assured them that Alandi, being the holy resting place of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and a deeply sacred pilgrimage site, will be protected from such development.
The proposed slaughterhouse was planned on survey number 325 in Moshi. Notably, the reservation for it (Reservation No. 5/220) was placed right next to Vedshri Tapovan, run by Maharshi Vedvyas Pratishthan on the Dehu-Alandi Road. Adjacent to this, under Reservation No. 5/221, a 4-acre plot for an animal hospital was also proposed.
This proposal, made without considering the religious importance of the site, nearby holy rivers, and strong local sentiments, has raised serious questions about the administrative approach.
“The BJP Mahayuti government, which works for God, the nation, and religion, is in power both in the state and at the Centre. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken a firm stand on implementing a ban on cow slaughter in the state for the protection and conservation of cows. The TP scheme in Tathawade-Chikhali was cancelled by the administration, followed by a stay on the TP scheme in Charholi village. Some people tried to create confusion over these actions. However, the Chief Minister resolved the issue in just one minute during a public event, ” said Mahesh Landge, MLA, BJP, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune.
“Residents of Moshi, cow protectors, and Hindutva activists had demanded the cancellation of the land reservation for the slaughterhouse. Responding to this, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued orders to cancel the reservation. On behalf of all cow protectors, cow conservationists, farmers, and the broader Hindu community, we sincerely thank him for this decision,” Landge added.
