Pune Consumer Forum Fines Car Dealer and Manufacturer For Failing To Fix Faulty VehicleÂ
The Pune District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered a motor dealer company and car manufacturing company to pay compensation after they failed to repair defects in a car sold to a customer despite repeated complaints.
A bench comprising President Arun Gaikwad and members Pranali Sawant and Kanchan Gangadhare ruled in favour of complainant Ajay Navnath Kamble, who had bought a car worth ₹20.94 lakh on December 16, 2020.
After driving just 500 km, Kamble reported issues including door noise, a faulty music system, and gear-shifting problems. Despite multiple service visits and complaints, the issues were not resolved. Kamble had to spend an additional ₹40,000 on alternative transport and even used roadside assistance to get the vehicle to the showroom himself.
The commission ordered the manufacturer and dealer to:
- Pay ₹83,600 for mental and physical distress and financial loss
- Pay ₹15,000 towards complaint-related expenses
- Have the car inspected by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)Â and fix all technical faults
- Bear the full cost of inspection and repairs
However, the commission ruled that Kamble is not eligible for a full vehicle replacement as he had used the car significantly since 2020.
