Pune News: Bouncer From Pimpri Loses Hand In Brutal Attack
Thergaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad | June 26, 2025:
A horrifying assault in Thergaon has left a man grievously injured, sparking outrage after the accused were released on bail within hours of their arrest. The victim, Rahul Kanaghre, lost one hand and suffered severe injuries to the other in a brutal attack allegedly carried out by three individuals over a personal dispute.
According to police reports, Rahul was called out of his home on the pretext of a discussion and was ambushed near Laxmibai Barne Garden. The assault was reportedly orchestrated by Rohit Nimaj, who had previous conflicts with the victim. He was accompanied by Shubham Pawar and Prashant Sakat. During the assault, Rahul raised his hands in defense, resulting in the complete severing of his left hand and partial amputation of the right.
The Wakad Police registered an attempt to murder case and arrested all three accused. However, the court granted them bail the next day, citing the provisions of the new criminal law framework. The decision triggered strong protests by Rahul’s family and local residents, who gathered outside the Wakad Police Station and the Police Commissioner’s office, demanding stricter action and accountability.
The police have now indicated that they will petition the court again to seek custody of the accused, given the brutality of the crime. They emphasized that while they did oppose the bail plea, the new legal structure limited their ability to argue effectively for extended detention. Authorities are also taking precautions to ensure the accused do not flee during the ongoing investigation.
This case has ignited widespread concerns about how recent changes in the legal system may be affecting the justice process in serious criminal cases, especially those involving violent assaults.
