Vehicles stranded, fields flooded, and villages submerged as cloudburst-like rains lash Buldhana district in Maharashtra.

Heavy monsoon rain wreaked havoc across Maharashtra on Tuesday, with Buldhana’s Mehkar taluka among the worst hit. A sudden downpour resembling a cloudburst transformed a stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway near the Sabra-Fardapur interchange into a virtual river. Water collected under a highway bridge caused severe traffic disruptions, with long lines of stranded vehicles and widespread damage to both private transport and farmlands.

As the rainwater entered vehicle engines, many broke down, bringing traffic on the Mehkar-Khamgaon route to a standstill. The chaos extended to agricultural areas, where early-sown crops were submerged, leading to extensive losses for local farmers.

Adding to the crisis, the Pench River swelled to dangerous levels, flooding riverside villages. Reports also suggest that one youth may have been swept away in Mehkar town, though further details are awaited.

The downpour knocked out power lines in multiple villages, plunging them into darkness and hampering communication and relief efforts. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the threat of further rainfall looms over already flood-affected areas.

As the Vidarbha region braces for more rain, emergency services have been put on high alert, and locals are advised to avoid travel in affected zones until further notice.
