Pune: A significant meeting took place recently at Van Bhavan, Pune  on June 27, between Maharashtra’s Forest Minister Ganesh Naik and Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapu Pathare. The discussion focused on acquiring forest land for several long-pending development projects in the Vadgaonsheri constituency. MLA Pathare raised multiple issues, all of which received a positive response from Minister Naik, who directed officials to act immediately.

A key agenda item was the proposal to construct 1 MBR (Main Balancing Reservoir), 1 sump well, and 2 new water tanks on forest land at Survey No. 304 on the hill behind D.Y. Patil College in Lohgaon. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested 0.9759 hectares for this project. Despite submitting the original proposal, revised versions, joint inspections, and reports, the land had not yet been handed over. This delay has stalled the Lohgaon water supply project, worsening water shortages in the area. MLA Pathare highlighted this situation during the meeting.

In response, Forest Minister Naik instructed officials to immediately transfer the land to PMC. MLA Pathare stated that this decision could resolve up to 50% of Lohgaon’s water issues permanently.

MLA Pathare also proposed additional key projects, which were approved in principle by the minister:

Developing a high-quality forest park on forest department land in Mouje Nirgudi and Vadgaon Shinde.

Realigning the Lohgaon–Nirgudi road, which currently passes through forest limits, along the western boundary of Charholi and Nirgudi to avoid obstructions.

Using 0.384 hectares of forest land at Survey No. 57 for road development on the Kharadi–Shivne route.

These decisions are expected to significantly address water, road, transport, and environmental concerns in the Vadgaonsheri constituency. Following the meeting, MLAs Bapusaheb Pathare and Mahesh Landge expressed gratitude and felicitated Minister Ganesh Naik for approving the forest land required for the Dhanori–Charholi connecting road.
