The Purple Line (PCMC to Swargate) accounted for 23.57 lakh passengers and ₹3.88 crore in earnings, while the Aqua Line (Vanaz to Ramwadi) carried 28.83 lakh riders and earned ₹4.44 crore.
Metro ridership has steadily grown throughout the year. January had the previous highest with 49.64 lakh riders and ₹7.78 crore in revenue. After a slight dip in February, the numbers picked up again in the following months. In May, the metro saw 47.62 lakh riders and revenue of ₹7.72 crore.
Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet has approved Phase 2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project, which includes two new elevated corridors extending the current network by 12.75 km. The project will cost ₹3,626 crore and will include 13 new stations. These corridors will connect rapidly developing areas like Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi.
The project is expected to be completed within four years and will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro). It will also improve connectivity with existing and upcoming metro lines through major interchange stations like District Court.
According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this expansion will not only ease traffic congestion on roads like Paud Road and Nagar Road but also provide a safe, fast, and eco-friendly public transport option. The daily ridership on the extended lines is expected to grow significantly in the coming decades.
