Infosys Employee Arrested for Secretly Recording Over 30 Women in Office Restroom
Bengaluru: An Infosys employee has been arrested for allegedly filming female colleagues inside the women’s restroom at the company’s Electronic City campus in Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Swapanil Nagesh Mali (28) from Andhra Pradesh, worked as a Senior Associate Consultant in the Helix department.
Alert colleague helps catch accused
The incident came to light on June 30 when a female employee noticed a reflection of movement on the restroom door while using the third-floor facility. She discovered that Mali had been recording her using his mobile phone by standing on the commode in an adjacent stall. The woman raised an alarm, prompting other employees to intervene. Mali apologised and attempted to flee but was caught.
Dozens of videos found on phone
Upon checking Mali’s phone, HR staff reportedly discovered several videos, including footage of the complainant and over 30 other female employees.
Formal complaint filed after family’s intervention
Initially, Infosys management allegedly tried to resolve the matter internally by asking Mali to apologise. However, the complainant’s husband intervened and subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Electronic City Police Station. Mali was arrested on Tuesday based on this complaint.
Work-from-office rule linked to incident
According to the FIR, the complainant, who works as a Technical Analyst, usually worked remotely. She was on campus due to Infosys’s recent mandate requiring employees to work from the office at least 10 days a month.
Police have launched an investigation, and Mali faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act related to voyeurism and invasion of privacy.
