Pune, July 4, 2025: The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) Maharashtra has urged the government to establish a dedicated Public Transit Hub in Pune’s western corridor to address long-standing transport challenges faced by thousands of commuters in Wakad, Balewadi, Hinjawadi, and nearby areas.

Highlighting the issue in a formal appeal, FITE said rapid urbanization in these suburbs has led to an unprecedented rise in the population, including IT employees, students, migrant workers, and local residents. Currently, commuters heading towards Mumbai, Satara, Kolhapur, and other parts of Maharashtra are forced to wait along highways or under flyovers for buses, often risking their safety.

“A planned transit hub will not only serve the Hinjawadi IT Park, Baner IT Hub, and Mhalunge-Balewadi Sports Complex but also provide safer travel options for students and residents across Wakad, Sus, Punawale, and Pimple Saudagar,” said Pavanjit Mane, President of FITE Maharashtra.

The forum added that the upcoming Metro connectivity in Wakad and Balewadi makes this an ideal time to develop such infrastructure, which would also reduce traffic congestion and enhance road safety. “It is high time that Public transport is made efficient in such prominent areas, ” said Prashant Pandit, Secretary, FITE Maharashtra.

FITE has appealed to authorities for immediate action on this critical demand to support Pune’s growing workforce and residents.
