Pune, July 7, 2025: As Pune prepares to celebrate Ganeshotsav on a grand scale, local Ganesh mandals from Swargate, Bibwewadi, Sahakarnagar, Parvati, and Dhankawadi areas have come together to plan and streamline the immersion procession (visarjan) on Tilak Road.

Pune’s iconic Ganesh immersion processions traditionally pass through five main routes—Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, and Karve Road. While the main procession goes via Laxmi Road with participation from mandals in the central city, mandals from the southern parts of Pune have been using Tilak Road for immersion since 1991 to avoid congestion.

In recent years, however, poor planning and inadequate police arrangements have caused severe delays in the Tilak Road immersion procession. To address these challenges and ensure a disciplined and timely immersion, the mandals have initiated joint efforts through a dedicated planning committee.

Key Demands by the Tilak Road Planning Committee:

1. Deployment of senior police officials at Puram Chowk to ease traffic congestion, as the absence of officers creates bottlenecks for mandals arriving from Swargate.

2. Increased police presence along Tilak Road to ensure smooth movement.

3. Provision of temporary sanitation facilities for participants on Tilak Road.

4. Immediate withdrawal of pending legal cases filed against office bearers of certain mandals.

The committee also expressed concerns over the perceived bias in civic attention, highlighting how PMC warmly welcomes mandals on Laxmi Road but neglects those on Tilak Road.

The meeting was attended by committee members including Amit Bagul, Ganesh Ghosh, Sagar Bagul, Sudhir Dhamale, Umesh Vaidya, Shirish Mohite, Uday Jagtap, Vaibhav Wagh, and Prashant Thopte, along with office bearers from various mandals. Amit Bagul delivered the introductory remarks, Pushkar Tuljapurkar conducted the proceedings, and Rishikesh Bhujbal proposed the vote of thanks.
