Pune: Power Disruption Hits 52,000 Consumers From Hinjawadi After MahaTransco Line Breakdown; Supply Restored In Phases
Pune, July 7, 2025: A major technical fault in MahaTransco’s 220 KV Infosys-Pegasus extra high voltage underground power line near Hinjawadi Phase-2 Metro Station around 2:10 PM on Sunday disrupted electricity supply to over 52,000 consumers across MSEDCL’s Ganeshkhind and Pune Rural divisions. The power outage impacted residential, commercial, and industrial areas, including Pimpri and Mulshi regions.
MSEDCL initiated emergency measures and successfully restored power to all low-tension consumers by early Monday morning through alternate arrangements. However, supply to several high-tension consumers remains suspended due to the heavy demand load and limited backup capacity.
Initially, MahaTransco had planned a scheduled maintenance shutdown from 11 AM to 1 PM on Sunday. The fault occurred shortly after power was resumed, causing outages on 25 feeder lines and affecting both high-tension and low-tension consumers, including IT parks and key residential zones.
By 10 PM Sunday, MSEDCL had restored power to 2,000 consumers in the first phase, and by 4 AM Monday, all 52,000 low-tension consumers had their supply reinstated. Senior engineers and maintenance teams worked round-the-clock to minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses.
Areas most affected included Exurbia Society, Kolte Patil Township, Marunji, Maan, Jambe, Nere, and Datta Wadi in Mulshi, and Hinjawadi MIDC, IT Park, Raisoni Park, and Wipro Circle in Pimpri.
Meanwhile, power supply to 85 high-tension and 2 extra high-tension consumers will take more time to resume due to infrastructure limitations.
