Pune, June 17, 2026: In a significant move aimed at accelerating Pune’s future urban planning, the City Improvement Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unanimously approved a key proposal that will officially initiate the process of preparing a Development Plan (DP) for the 23 villages recently merged into the PMC limits.
Under the provisions of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, PMC will now declare its intention to prepare a Development Plan for these areas. The committee has also approved the appointment of a Town Planning Officer required for carrying out the planning process.
Accordingly, Aniruddha Pavaskar (M.E. Town Planning), City Engineer in PMC’s Town Planning Department, will be appointed as the Town Planning Officer for the project.
The decision is expected to expedite the process of ensuring planned, balanced, and sustainable development in the newly merged villages. It will facilitate systematic urban growth with a focus on roads, infrastructure, public amenities, green spaces, and the future requirements of residents.
The proposal was actively pursued and facilitated by City Improvement Committee Chairperson Smita Vaste, who played a key role in securing its approval.
Speaking on the occasion, Smita Vaste said, “This is a crucial decision for Pune’s comprehensive and planned development.
