Maharashtra CM Pushes For Online Delivery Of Health Services And Stronger Primary Care System
Mumbai, July 10, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday directed the state health department to bring most of its services online through the official “Aaple Sarkar” portal to boost transparency, accessibility, and efficiency.
Chairing a review meeting at the state legislature complex during the ongoing monsoon session, Fadnavis asked health department secretaries to prepare time-bound action plans for ongoing and upcoming urban healthcare projects to ensure their timely completion.
The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure in both rural and urban regions. He announced plans to modernize 398 primary health centers (PHCs) and 2,806 sub-centres at an estimated cost of ₹5,983 crore, to be released in phases. He called for prudent utilization of central, state, and institutional funds for these upgrades.
Fadnavis also instructed the department to fast-track the creation of a dedicated Infrastructure Development Corporation for the health sector. “Artificial intelligence must be integrated into healthcare services, and the procurement process for medicines and medical equipment needs simplification. Additionally, innovative training programs should be launched to build the capacity of health workers,” he said.
The CM emphasized the importance of real-time data availability for hospitals under both Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY and the state-run Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana to streamline patient services.
He proposed creating a separate recruitment board for filling vacancies in the health department and decentralizing services to improve quality. “A citizen-friendly website must be developed to give people easy access to information about all government health schemes. A comprehensive draft of the state health policy should also be prepared,” Fadnavis added.
Public Health Secretary Dr Nipun Vinayak and Secretary Virendra Singh shared presentations highlighting the department’s initiatives and changes in the bond policy for medical professionals.
