Pune And Khadki Cantonments To Merge with PMC In Historic Move; Process To Be Completed In 3 Months
Pune, July 10, 2025: In a landmark decision aimed at improving civic amenities and governance, the state government has granted in-principle approval for the merger of Khadki and Pune Cantonment Boards with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The historic move was announced following a high-level meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, senior cabinet ministers, MLAs, and senior officials.
Deputy CM Fadnavis extended his full support to the proposal and directed that the merger process be completed within three months. Officials said the integration will provide residents of the cantonment areas with improved access to essential civic services such as clean drinking water, sanitation, waste management, better roads, and healthcare through PMC and the State Government.
Siddharth Shirole, MLA, shared the development on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing gratitude to CM Fadnavis for what he termed a “transformative, citizen-first decision.” He added that the merger will also help ensure smoother infrastructure development, faster decision-making, and more effective governance across the city.
