Connecting PCMC to Swargate, the fully operational Purple Line is transforming Pune’s commute with speed, sustainability, and connectivity.

The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is no ordinary metro corridor—it’s a strategic solution to the city’s long-standing issues of traffic congestion, poor connectivity, and unsustainable urban growth. Now fully commissioned from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate, this 16.6-kilometre stretch marks a major leap in Pune’s mass transit journey.

Developed by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) and overseen by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the Purple Line blends elevated and underground routes to create a seamless commuter experience across dense residential and commercial zones.

Why the Purple Line Matters

By offering a fast, reliable alternative to private vehicles and buses, the Purple Line directly addresses urban challenges:

  • Drastically reduces travel time between PCMC and Swargate
  • Eases congestion on critical roads like the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway
  • Lowers vehicular emissions, supporting Pune’s push for sustainable mobility
  • Improves access to major employment hubs, markets, educational institutions, and hospitals

A Core Pillar of Pune’s Metro Vision

As part of Phase 1 of Pune Metro, the Purple Line is designed to integrate with other upcoming corridors like the Aqua Line (Vanaz–Ramwadi) and Line-3 (Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar). The Civil Court station will become a key interchange hub linking all metro routes in the future, allowing passengers smooth transition across the city’s transit network.
