Pune Citizens Plant Saplings in Potholes to Protest Poor Road Conditions
Pune, July 14, 2025 — In a powerful and coordinated citizen-led protest, hundreds of Punekars across various neighborhoods came together to symbolically plant saplings in potholes — a striking gesture to highlight the dangerous and shameful condition of roads across Pune and its metropolitan regions.
This unique protest — dubbed “Pot the Pothole” — witnessed participation from residents in every corner of the city. Citizens in Bavdhan, Aundh, and Khadki took initiative locally, with Anne Anish, Vikas Chavan, and Chenthil Iyer respectively leading symbolic plantations in their areas.

The Aam Aadmi Party publicly extended its support to the protest by actively participating in tree plantations at several locations across the city.
“This was not an isolated event — this was a unified cry for accountability,” said Adv. Krunnal Gharre, one of the coordinators of the campaign. “The condition of our roads is not just inconvenient — it’s criminal negligence. From PMC to PCMC, PMRDA to NHAI — every agency has passed the buck. Citizens are now showing that if the authorities won’t fix the roads, they’ll expose the apathy in ways that can’t be ignored.”
Over 325+ locations as last recorded were part of this protest. Officials cannot hide behind erratic weather excuses, bad quality means corruption. And that’s the root cause added Adv. Krunnal Gharre. He has stated that this was only the beginning, and citizens will escalate their efforts if timely action is not taken.
