Pune: Activists Target PMC Over Neglect Of 32 Merged Villages
Pune | July 14, 2025: Alleging exploitation of newly merged villages, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) staged a unique “Carrot and Sweet Potato” protest outside Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday.
Party leaders accused the PMC and the Mahayuti government of neglecting the development of 32 villages, including Manjri Budruk, despite having merged them into city limits. They claimed that while the civic body lured residents with promises of 40% property tax concessions and development works, in reality, it imposed a 2% penal interest on taxes, which they described as “daylight robbery”.
Led by city unit chief Prashant Jagtap, the protest witnessed fiery slogans against the administration and ruling coalition. The demonstrators criticized the PMC for failing to deliver on its commitments and demanded immediate action to address the concerns of residents from these areas.
Prominent leaders present at the protest included Prashant Jagtap, Ravindra Malwadkar, Uday Mahale, Asha Sane, Gajendra More, Kishor Kamble, Vaishali Thopte, Dilshad Attar, Pooja Katkar, Ramiz Sayyed, Asif Shaikh, and Ganesh Nalawade.
The NCP leaders have urged PMC to take swift corrective measures and warned of intensified protests if their demands are not met.
