Pune, July 15, 2025: In a dramatic twist, Pune police have revealed that the complaint filed by a 69-year-old man from Delhi, alleging that an auto-rickshaw driver robbed him at knifepoint in the dense forests of Bhimashankar, was fabricated.

According to police, the senior citizen had arrived in Pune and hired the rickshaw outside the railway station on Saturday morning for a trip to Bhimashankar temple, agreeing on a fare of ₹15,000 (₹10,000 in cash and the rest via online payment). After reaching Bhimashankar, the driver waited for hours while the man went for darshan, but he did not return. With repeated attempts to contact the man failing, the rickshaw driver eventually drove back to Pune.

Later, the man filed a complaint at Bund Garden Police Station claiming the driver had threatened him with a knife and robbed him. However, during the investigation, police verified both sides of the story and found no evidence of wrongdoing by the driver.

“The driver stayed at the location as agreed but left only after the passenger did not return. This complaint was found to be false,” a police official stated.

The driver, initially booked, was released after being served a notice. Police have criticized the senior citizen’s false accusation, which wasted valuable time and resources, and said further legal action is being considered.
