Pune, July 15, 2025: The Pune Metro’s much-awaited Omkareshwar pedestrian bridge, designed in the shape of a veena, is nearing completion and is set to open to the public in August. The 105-metre-long cable-stayed structure, built across the Mula River near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden, promises to significantly improve last-mile connectivity for thousands of commuters.

The bridge will connect the Omkareshwar Metro Station to Shaniwar Peth, providing seamless access for residents, office-goers, and shoppers from key areas such as Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, and surrounding commercial hubs. Officials said the bridge is designed to bypass Pune’s congested inner-city roads, offering a faster and more convenient link to the Metro network.

Work on the iconic bridge began in March 2022. Designed with inclusivity in mind, it is equipped with escalators, elevators, and staircases to ensure universal accessibility. Beyond its functional role, the bridge is expected to become a city landmark, offering scenic riverfront views and enhancing the pedestrian experience in Pune’s historic core.
