Chennai: In a shocking revelation, Chennai police have arrested a 45-year-old MBA graduate from Rajasthan who allegedly masterminded the theft of over 140 luxury cars across four Indian states over the past two decades.

The accused, Satyendra Singh Shekhawat, a Jaipur native and son of a retired army officer, was leading a double life—well-educated on paper, but running a high-tech auto-theft racket that spanned Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry.

The breakthrough came when a luxury car was stolen in broad daylight from Anna Nagar, Chennai. CCTV footage revealed a man using advanced theft tools to drive away the vehicle, prompting a swift investigation by the Tirumangalam police.

Tracked through digital clues, Shekhawat was arrested from Puducherry, where he was hiding following the latest heist. Upon interrogation, police uncovered the staggering scale of his operation.

Modus Operandi

Shekhawat often posed as a car service technician or showroom employee to gain access to high-end vehicles. He would discreetly install GPS trackers on his targets, allowing him to monitor and steal them at precise moments. He also crafted fake keys and used tech-savvy methods to evade detection.

Once stolen, the vehicles were driven to Rajasthan or Nepal and sold in black markets for huge profits.

Long List of Victims

Authorities confirmed at least four luxury vehicles were stolen from Chennai alone, with over ten new victims coming forward after Shekhawat’s arrest. Investigators believe there may be even more unreported cases.

Shekhawat is now in judicial custody, and police are widening the investigation to identify potential accomplices, buyers, and interstate networks involved in the racket.
