A shocking case of alleged greed and manipulation has come to light from Pune’s Sindh Housing Society in Aundh. A 54-year-old man has reportedly been arrested for forcibly sending his sister to a mental hospital and their elderly mother to an old-age home in what police say was an attempt to seize the family’s ancestral property.

The accused, identified as Dharmendra Indore Rai from Chembur, Mumbai, allegedly entered his family’s home with four female bouncers between July 7 and 18. His 56-year-old sister, who was living there along with their 80-year-old mother, was reportedly injected with an unknown substance under the pretext of a medical blood test and taken to a mental health facility in Balewadi. Doctors at the facility discharged her after determining that she had no signs of mental illness.

On the same day, Rai allegedly moved their mother to an old-age home without her consent. Both women were reportedly barred from returning to their home after the incident.

According to police officials, the sister managed to escape the mental health facility with the help of friends and neighbors. She later approached the Chaturshringi police and filed a formal complaint against her brother and the bouncers. Based on her statement, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Mental Healthcare Act. Dharmendra Rai was arrested, and police confirmed that medical treatment was provided to both the sister and mother.

The complainant told police that the conflict began after she refused to transfer power of attorney to her brother. She had also sent him a draft of a will in which she stated that her share of the property should go to her two daughters. After this, his behavior reportedly changed, and he allegedly became hostile, eventually carrying out the plan to isolate both women.

Police say they are now looking into whether the medical claims were fabricated and are examining the drug that was allegedly administered. The role of the bouncers is also under investigation. The complainant and her mother are now back in their home, and the case continues to be investigated under close supervision.
