Dhankawadi locals left terrified after unidentified miscreants damage autos, cars, and school buses; two residents injured while trying to intervene.

In a shocking incident that unfolded late Tuesday night in Pune, a group of unidentified miscreants wreaked havoc in the Dhankawadi area, vandalizing more than 20 vehicles in a violent spree that lasted nearly two hours. The incident occurred between 11:45 pm and 1 am across Keshav Complex, Saraswati Chowk, and Navnath Nagar, all falling under the jurisdiction of Sahakar Nagar police station.

According to preliminary reports, the gang damaged 15 auto-rickshaws, 3 cars, 2 school buses, and a Piaggio tempo by smashing their windows and windshields. The attackers roamed the parking areas along the streets, creating widespread destruction and panic.

Two residents who attempted to stop the rioters were reportedly assaulted and sustained injuries. Both have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

As soon as the police were alerted, officers from Sahakar Nagar police station arrived at the scene and conducted a panchnama. The crime branch and local police teams are now scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity in an urgent effort to identify the culprits.

The violent episode has triggered fear and unrest among the residents, many of whom are now demanding heightened night patrols in the area. “We’ve never witnessed something like this before. It felt like a war zone outside. The police must increase security,” said one local resident.

Authorities have assured that efforts to trace and arrest the assailants are underway “on a war footing.” Meanwhile, a formal case is in the process of being registered.
