Pune: Hadapsar Man Poses As CBI Officer, Dupes Victim In Fraud Scheme
Pune, July 25, 2025: A 27-year-old man from Hadapsar has been arrested for impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer in an elaborate attempt to deceive and extort money from a local resident.
According to police officials, the accused introduced himself as a high-ranking CBI official and attempted to gain the victim’s trust by threatening legal action in a fabricated case. The victim, initially intimidated by the claims, grew suspicious and alerted the authorities.
Following a swift investigation, the accused was traced and taken into custody. Police have confirmed that he had no ties to any law enforcement agency and was using a fake identity for personal gain.
“We are probing whether this was a one-off incident or if there are more victims,” said an officer involved in the case. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken under charges of impersonation, cheating, and criminal intimidation.
Authorities have urged citizens to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be a government officer and report suspicious activity immediately.
