Pune, July 31, 2025: In a significant move, two of Pune’s most prominent Ganesh mandals — Akhil Mandai Mandal and Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust — have announced that they will participate in this year’s Ganesh Visarjan procession only after the five prestigious ‘Manache’ Ganpati idols have departed from Tilak Statue Chowk.

Traditionally a major highlight on Laxmi Road during the grand immersion procession, these mandals made the announcement in a joint press conference attended by Anna Thorat (President, Akhil Mandai Mandal), Punit Balan (Festival Head and Trustee, Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust), President Sanjeev Jawale, and other members including Sanjay Mate and Vishwas Bhor.

Explaining the decision, Anna Thorat emphasized that Ganeshotsav is a spiritual event, and immersion day (Anant Chaturdashi on September 6) holds the highest significance. However, due to a total lunar eclipse on the following day (September 7), religious practice mandates that idols be returned to temples and covered before the eclipse begins. Therefore, idols must be brought back before 12 noon on Sunday.

He added that although the mandals have consistently prepared to join the evening processions by 7 PM as scheduled by police, delays in past years forced them to change their plans. This year, they aim to conclude their immersion procession earlier.

Punit Balan highlighted that the eclipse will begin at 12:37 PM on September 7. Therefore, all Ganesh mandals are advised to complete their immersion well before noon. Joining the procession immediately after the five ‘Manache’ Ganpatis will help ease the burden on the police and civic administration.

The mandals also appealed to all other Ganesh mandals in the city to cooperate and help conclude the immersion processions by Sunday noon.
