Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 31, 2025 — In a major boost to decongest traffic on the Pune-Nashik Highway, the state government has decided to allocate approximately ₹600 crore for land acquisition for the proposed Nashik Phata to Khed Elevated Corridor. The initiative gained momentum following consistent follow-up by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis taking a positive stance on the issue.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already floated tenders for the eight-lane elevated corridor between Nashik Phata and Khed on National Highway 48. However, the process was stalled due to incomplete land acquisition. Authorities have mandated 100% land acquisition before commencing construction.

Two proposals were submitted to the state’s Urban Development Department—one from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) seeking ₹262.79 crore for acquiring 1,23,843 sq. meters of land, and another from Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for ₹288 crore for acquiring over 10 hectares. These costs would be covered under the state’s GST revenue and ownership charges.

MLA Mahesh Landge highlighted the urgency of resolving traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad during the recent Assembly session. Following a series of meetings with the Public Works Department and Divisional Commissioner, the land acquisition fund is expected to be cleared soon.

“This project will ease traffic woes and bring much-needed relief to commuters. The BJP-led government is committed to delivering on infrastructure promises,” Landge stated.
