Pune | August 1, 2025: The Pune Metro has reported its highest monthly performance so far this year, with a record-breaking ₹9.09 crore in revenue and 57.60 lakh passengers commuting in July 2025.

The Purple Line (PCMC to Swargate) contributed ₹4.09 crore with 25.04 lakh commuters, while the Aqua Line (Ramwadi to Vanaz) recorded ₹5.01 crore in revenue from 32.55 lakh riders.

The rising success of the Pune Metro is largely being attributed to the declining standards of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus services. Daily commuters increasingly prefer the Metro due to its air-conditioned coaches, punctual service, and clean infrastructure, especially when compared to PMPML’s frequent delays, ageing fleet, rising fares, and growing complaints of mobile theft.

While the Metro continues to expand its network and improve rider experience, PMPML buses remain plagued by traffic snarls, mechanical breakdowns, and lack of basic passenger amenities — including adequate shelters during the rainy season.

With Metro ridership steadily climbing and public satisfaction growing, the trend signals a major shift in Pune’s urban transportation preferences.
