Pune: Hinjawadi Villagers Pass Resolution Opposing 36-Metre Road Widening Plan

Pune: Hinjawadi Villagers Pass Resolution Opposing 36-Metre Road Widening Plan
Pune, August 2, 2025: Residents of Hinjawadi have formally opposed the proposed widening of roads to 36 metres in their village and parts of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. The resolution was passed during a gram sabha held on Friday.
Villagers argued that widening the roads in the gaothan (village settlement) would severely impact residential houses, public utilities, religious structures, schools, and even the gram panchayat office. Hinjawadi sarpanch Ganesh Jambhulkar stated that the community is demanding the road width be restricted to 18-24 metres instead of the proposed 30-36 metres.
He also mentioned that many long-time residents, some living in the area for over four to five decades, could lose their homes. The villagers plan to meet Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to present their concerns. If the issue remains unresolved, they are considering legal action.
The residents clarified that while they support widening of main roads outside the village, they want internal roads within the settlement to retain their current width.
Another issue raised was the delay in compensation to farmers who had earlier agreed to road expansion plans. Villagers claimed that many are still awaiting their promised dues.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Maan village, also part of the IT park, has scheduled a gram sabha on Tuesday to deliberate on the same matter.
A recent video on social media captured a tense conversation between Jambhulkar and Ajit Pawar, in which Jambhulkar requested a reduction in proposed road width. Pawar, in response, expressed frustration over inadequate infrastructure and cited it as a reason for IT firms shifting out of Pune.
