Pune: One Dead, Three Rescued After Pipeline Trench Collapse During JICA Project Work Near Nanded City
Pimpri, August 4, 2025: A pipeline trench collapse near Nanded City on Monday evening turned fatal for one worker, while three others were rescued in a swift operation by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade and the PDRF team.
The incident occurred around 6:15 PM during excavation work for a river improvement project under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). While digging a deep trench for pipeline installation, a sudden soil collapse buried four workers.
Upon receiving the emergency call around 6 PM, the PMRDA rescue team reached the site within minutes and immediately launched a rescue operation. Thanks to their timely action, three of the four trapped workers were successfully pulled out alive and rushed to a hospital. However, one worker succumbed to the injuries at the site.
Over 30 personnel from PMRDA’s fire brigade and the PDRF were involved in the high-intensity rescue effort. The operation was carried out under the leadership of PMRDA Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode and Divisional Fire Officer Sujit Patil, in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation fire department.
