Pune: Civil Society Group Stages Symbolic Hunger Strike Against Atrocities In Palestine
Pune, August 5, 2025: Progressive organizations and activists in Pune held a symbolic one-day hunger strike at Sambhaji Park under the banner “An Uprising of Solidarity – For Gaza!” to protest the ongoing genocide in Gaza by Israel and to express solidarity with Palestinian civilians.
Protesters demanded an immediate end to the humanitarian crisis, urgent resumption of food and medicine supplies, and complete liberation of Palestine. They called upon the Indian government to take a firm, pro-Palestine stance in line with its historical support and to stop all forms of military cooperation with Israel.
Speakers and organizations highlighted the atrocities, including bombing of refugee camps, denial of essential resources, sexual violence against women, and the deaths of over 18,000 Palestinian children in the last two months.
Participants included members of Stree Mukti Andolan Samparka Samiti, NAPM, Pune Collective, DYFI, SFI, PUCL, and other like-minded groups. Notable speakers included Prof. Parimal Maya Sudhakar, Prof. Shruti Tambe, Dr. Anant Phadke, Kiran Moghe, Suniti SR, Anwar Rajan, Medha Thatte, Milind Champanerkar, and others.
Their collective demand: Stop using starvation as a weapon, lift the blockade on Gaza, ensure immediate humanitarian aid, enforce a ceasefire, and free Palestine.
