Pune: Pimpri Camp Traders Demand Stronger Police Presence After Firing Incident, Call For Better Safety Measures
Pimpri, Pune August 7, 2025: Concerned over rising incidents of crime and lack of police responsiveness, traders in Pimpri Camp have urged authorities to strengthen security measures in the area. The Pimpri Merchant Federation has called for the immediate resumption of 24×7 police patrolling, including marshal rounds on two-wheelers, which were earlier active in the market area.
Federation President Shrichand Aswani highlighted that the police outpost near Pimpri market, once used for registering complaints, is now inactive. The landline phone at the outpost has been out of service for over five years, making it difficult to report emergencies like thefts, accidents, or altercations.

With the main Pimpri Police Station located nearly 4–5 km away on the Pune-Mumbai Highway, traders say the distance discourages victims from reporting crimes. They also alleged that officers at the station often delay complaint registration by subjecting complainants to excessive questioning.
Adding to their frustration, traders accused the police of siding with unauthorized street vendors while harassing legal shop owners. The recent firing incident targeting a local trader has intensified fears in the business community.
As a mark of protest and to demand strict action against the accused, traders kept the market shut on Thursday. A formal memorandum listing their demands was submitted by Federation members Shrichand Aswani, Neeraj Chawla, Sunil Chugani, Prakash Ratanani, Sachin Talreja, and Amar Kukreja.
