Pune: With fuel prices remaining high and traffic becoming a daily challenge in most cities, many buyers are looking for cars that are economical and comfortable to drive. CNG automatic cars offer the best of both worlds by reducing fuel expenses while making city driving easier with automatic transmission.
Several manufacturers now offer factory-fitted or dealer-approved CNG automatic options across different price segments.

Tata Altroz CNG AMT is one of the newest additions to the segment. The premium hatchback is available between ₹9.96 lakh and ₹12.49 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and delivers a claimed mileage of 26.2 km/kg.
Tata Tiago CNG AMT was India’s first factory-fitted CNG automatic hatchback. Powered by a 1.2-litre engine with a 5-speed AMT gearbox, it offers a claimed mileage of 28.06 km/kg. Prices range from ₹8.08 lakh to ₹9.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Nissan Magnite CNG AMT is available with a dealer-approved retrofit CNG kit. The compact SUV is priced between ₹7.83 lakh and ₹11.23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and delivers a claimed mileage of 24.09 km/kg.
Honda Elevate CVT with CNG is available through dealer-level CNG fitment. The kit costs around ₹80,000-₹90,000 over the vehicle price and delivers approximately 15-16 km/kg, making it a practical option for buyers seeking a premium SUV.

The Honda City CVT can also be fitted with a dealer-approved CNG kit. The sedan offers an estimated mileage of 16-17 km/kg while retaining the comfort of its automatic transmission.
Buyers looking at Maruti Suzuki Fronx Automatic can opt for a dealer-installed CNG kit, allowing them to enjoy the SUV’s automatic convenience with lower fuel costs. Mileage may vary depending on the kit and driving conditions.
Similarly, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Automatic can be equipped with a dealer-approved CNG kit, making it an attractive option for urban commuters looking for a premium hatchback with reduced running costs.
The Toyota Glanza Automatic, which shares its platform with the Baleno, is also available with dealer-level CNG fitment in select markets, offering another reliable hatchback choice for buyers.
| Model | Transmission | Approx. Mileage |
|---|---|---|
| Tata Tiago | 5-speed AMT | 28.06 km/kg |

One of the biggest advantages of CNG automatic cars is their low running cost. At an average CNG price of around ₹80 per kg and real-world efficiency of 24-28 km/kg, the running cost works out to approximately ₹2.8-₹3.3 per kilometre. In comparison, petrol cars typically cost ₹7-₹9 per kilometre, helping frequent drivers save thousands of rupees every year.
However, buyers should also keep a few factors in mind before purchasing. Factory-fitted CNG systems are generally safer and more reliable than aftermarket kits. Buyers should also check the availability of CNG stations in their city, service network, warranty coverage and on-road prices. Since the CNG cylinder occupies part of the boot, luggage space may be reduced. In addition, AMT gearboxes are better suited for city driving than aggressive highway overtaking.
Disclaimer: Prices are approximate on-road Mumbai prices and may vary depending on the city, variant and dealership. Buyers should verify specifications, mileage and CNG fitment details before making a purchase.
