Fraudsters often misuse personal details to obtain SIM cards in someone else’s name, leading to potential legal trouble for the unsuspecting victim. They may steal Aadhaar details through data leaks, phishing, or social engineering, and register mobile connections without the person’s knowledge.

To address this, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has launched the Sanchar Saathi initiative — a citizen-centric platform designed to empower mobile subscribers, enhance security, and raise awareness about government services.

What is Sanchar Saathi?
Sanchar Saathi is available both as a mobile app and on its official website (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in). The platform allows users to check the total number of mobile connections linked to their ID, and deactivate any unauthorised numbers.

  1. Visit sancharsaathi.gov.in.
  2. Click on Citizen Centric Services.
  3. Select Know Mobile Connections In Your Name.
  4. Enter your mobile number and the captcha code.
  5. Verify using the OTP sent to your registered mobile.

The service is also available through the Sanchar Saathi mobile app on both Android and iOS.

Special Note for Corporate Connections
If your mobile number is part of a corporate or bulk connection, the portal will display all mobile numbers linked to that account.

What to Do if You Find Unknown Numbers
If you spot numbers you don’t recognise, you can request deactivation directly from the portal. It’s recommended to follow up with your telecom service provider or customer care to ensure no unauthorised activity continues.

By regularly checking your mobile connections, you can safeguard your identity and prevent SIM-based fraud.
