‘Ordered Milk, Lost ₹18.5 Lakh’: Mumbai Woman Duped After Clicking Link in Online Scam

Mumbai: A 71-year-old woman from Wadala was duped of her life savings of ₹18.5 lakh after attempting to buy milk online.
According to police, the incident took place on August 4 when the woman received a call from a man identifying himself as “Deepak,” an executive of a milk company. He shared a link with her and asked her to enter her details to place an order. The fraudster kept her engaged on the call for over an hour, instructing her throughout the process.
The next day, the caller contacted her again and managed to extract additional information. Unaware of the fraud, the woman continued with her routine until a bank visit revealed that ₹1.7 lakh had been withdrawn from one of her accounts. Further checks showed her two other accounts had also been emptied, bringing the total loss to ₹18.5 lakh.
Investigators suspect the scammer gained access to her phone once she clicked on the malicious link. A case has been registered, and police are investigating the matter.
