14-Year-Old Student Calls Police for Support; Emotional Intervention Brings Estranged Parents Back Together in Pune
Pune: A distress call from a 14-year-old girl turned into an emotional breakthrough for her family, reuniting her estranged parents and giving them a second chance at togetherness.
The Class 10 student, a bright topper, had been struggling emotionally after her well-educated parents from Shivajinagar began divorce proceedings a year ago. Living with her father, she felt isolated despite her academic success. On her way back from visiting her mother in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the teenager broke down at Shivajinagar Metro Station, unable to cope with the loneliness at home.
In desperation, she dialed Constable Sonali Hinge of Pune Police’s Damini Squad—an officer she had met during a school awareness session. Hinge rushed to the spot, comforted the child, and brought her to Shivajinagar Police Station, where the girl shared her ordeal.
Realising the seriousness, Hinge arranged a meeting with the school principal and called the parents. During the discussion, she explained how their ongoing conflict was deeply affecting their daughter’s mental health and future. Moved by their child’s pain, both parents broke down and agreed to withdraw the divorce case, promising to live together again for their daughter’s well-being.
The teenager, relieved and grateful, thanked the Damini Squad and Pune Police for their timely intervention. The school principal also expressed appreciation for the officer’s role.
Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi praised Constable Hinge, stating her sensitivity and quick response not only prevented a potential tragedy but also reunited a broken family.
What began as a cry for help turned into a story of hope, proving that empathy and timely action can transform lives.
