Mumbai–Konkan Ro-Ro Ferry And Kolad–Goa Ro-Ro Train Services Enhance Festive Travel Options
Mumbai, August 28, 2025 – Konkan-bound travellers are set to experience faster and more convenient journeys this festive season with two major transport initiatives – the Mumbai–Konkan Ro-Ro ferry service and the Kolad–Goa Ro-Ro car transportation train service.
The Mumbai–Konkan ferry, launching on September 1, will drastically reduce travel time. The vessel will connect Mumbai to Jaigad (Ratnagiri) in 3–4 hours and Vijaydurg (Sindhudurg) in 5–6 hours, compared to the 10–12 hours by road. Designed to carry 50 four-wheelers and 30 two-wheelers, the ferry will operate from Bhaucha Dhakka Terminal, strengthening coastal connectivity, much like the successful Mumbai–Mandwa (Alibag) route introduced in 2020.Meanwhile, Konkan Railway has commenced its Ro-Ro car transportation service between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa) from August 23, just ahead of Ganapati festival.
This unique service allows passengers to travel alongside their vehicles, offering both comfort and safety, with dedicated AC and second seating coaches on board.Shipbuilding Minister Nitesh Rane confirmed that the ferry service, delayed earlier due to weather conditions, will commence after final testing, calling it “a matter of pride for Konkan.”With future plans for new jetties at Shrivardhan and Mandwa, and continued expansion of rail-based vehicle transport, Maharashtra is set to see a significant boost in coastal and Konkan-bound travel convenience.
